SHI Pharma is part of the Swedish Institute of Herbal Medicine, which was founded in 1969. As early as 1977, production of Kan Jang mixtur was started in its own industrial property. In 1983, a separate processing unit for extraction began to be built. That same year, Kan Jang became the best-selling cold product in Sweden.
To increase capacity and improve extraction technology, Vallberga dairy was purchased from Arla in 1990, and the business moved into new premises that were supplemented with new and expanded process equipment in 1992. The extraction part was further expanded in 1986 with specially designed extractors with very high capacity, which was completed in 1999.
As SHI Pharma always aims to be a world leader in the manufacture of both active pharmaceutical ingredients and finished herbal medicines, facilities of the highest international standard are required. Therefore, a new phase of upgrades of premises and equipment in Vallberga was initiated, which took place between 2007 and 2016.
